The Locked Door

The Dawning of a New Age

Elise is Moving Out…someday (: July 12, 2008

I was laying in bed today with Elise after a nap, and she was so warm and sweet the way that her little body just conforms to mine.  We were sharing some kisses and I hugged her really tight and said “Can I keep you forever?”, to which Elise bluntly replied “No, but you can keep me for a really long time.”  I asked why I couldn’t keep her forever, and again, in Elise fashion, she explained that I have to keep Daddy forever, and she will be living in her own house!!

What’s really funny is that Jillian has told us both on several occasions that she will not be moving out at anytime, and apparently she still wants to get married and be a mommy, but we’ll all be living under the same roof as ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY!!!  These girls are as different as night and day, and I am honored to be the one who gets to watch their little minds just working away!  THANK YOU LORD FOR MY SWEET,  PRECIOUS GIRLS!!

I thought it would be appropriate to give props to the people who made this first blog possible.  So, thank you kids for waking me up at 4am today by screaming in front of my locked bedroom door!!!  I guess it’s a blessing in disguise since I’ve been wanting to do this for months, but can never seem to find enough quiet time to get started.  Thankfully, this week we decided to start locking our bedroom door at night to prevent the chronic neck pain that comes with sleeping in a bed full of 5 people!!  I can generally sleep through the “sneaking in” phase since they know to only go to Daddy’s side, but it’s a little harder to ignore the gut wrenching screams of a child standing outside your door, not quite understanding why you’ve suddenly stonewalled the sleep routine they’ve known all their lives…1)go to bed, somewhat willingly 2)stay in bed until mommy and daddy hit the REM cycle 3)sneak quietly into the room, avoiding mommy’s side at all costs 4)hop in with daddy and he’ll never say a word!

Well, unfortunately for them, mommy’s chiropratic bills are getting a little steep, and daddy is tired of going to work with a headache, so this is the dawning of a new age in our house…The Locked Door!!  We’re not entirely evil.  We’ve warned, threatened and even tried this method before, but I think we’re actually going to stick with it now; I guess I have to since I named a blog after it!  (The original name I wanted was already taken, but this is even better!)

So thank you to my sweet little babies who have inspired almost all of my actions…both good and bad, over the past seven years.  I hope you enjoy reading someday how you’ve made your mommy so crazy!!

**I should mention that we started last night off with a locked door.  I put the screaming girls back in bed at 4am, re-locked the door, and as I lay there restlessly trying to get back to sleep, I realized that somehow “the boy” had managed his way in and was laying peacefully between me and daddy.  As I lay there laughing at the irony, I realized that I could not go one more moment without journaling my crazy life for posterity.

I also have to give credit to Candace for being such a nerdy influence and inspiring my creative side by being the first blogger I’ve ever known in person….thanks girl! (:
